Freeport to distribute free masks

Freeport officials announced today that all residents would be given the opportunity to pick up free face masks at Freeport Village Hall tomorrow, at 40 N Ocean Ave., starting at 10:30 a.m.

Special lines will be marked at Village Hall for residents to follow social distancing while picking up their free masks.

Freeport officials said that the free mask initiative serves as a way to protect local residents ahead of the summer tourist season, where thousands of people visit the village regularly for boating and fishing events.

Mayor Robert Kennedy previously said that the village stocked up on masks after Governor Andrew Cuomo issued that all New Yorkers wear face masks in public spaces starting on April 18 to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Some people just can’t afford the masks or might not have access to them, so we want to make sure we can provide them to as many people as we can,” Kennedy said.
