Jordan Figueroa, 18, of Freeport, reached the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 10 after completing his project to renovate the Freeport Cornerstone Church’s youth lounge.
With the help of church officials and volunteers, Figueroa led the renovations as they repaired the dilapidated areas of the lounge, repainted it and built a new closet.
Figueroa has attended the Cornerstone Church, which has stood in Freeport for more than 100 years, since birth. He chose to renovate the youth lounge after discussing possible projects with his pastor.
“It was amazing to see the fruits of his efforts,” said Anna Ellis, Figueroa’s mother. “Despite things shutting down over the pandemic, he was glad that he was able to reach Eagle Scout this year.”
