Lynbrook Fire Department extinguishes car fire

On Jan. 16, Lynbrook firefighters responded to a car fire at 100 Earle Ave.

Under the command of Chief Michael Brooks, the firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. Second Assistant Chief John Donald was first on the scene and reported smoke showing from the car, which was in the driveway of a home and threatened its garage.

Engine Company No. 1 arrived shortly after and hooked a line to the fire hydrant on the corner of the street, two homes down from the driveway. The burning car was an unregistered 1989 Cadillac. The owner was reportedly trying to start it so that it could be towed away when it caught fire. The cause was determined to be the electrical system.

Hose Company members arrived and used an additional line to fight the fire, while Truck Company was also on the scene and overhauled the interior of the car. The Emergency Medical Company was also on the scene, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters spent 45 minutes at the home and damage was confined to the vehicle.
