Residents throughout the Village of Malverne dressed in different shades of blue and waved blue American flags to show their support for law enforcement during the village’s “Back the Blue” rally last Saturday. The rally, which was held on National Thank a Police Officer Day, started at Westwood Park and concluded at Chester A. Reese Veterans Memorial Park.
Last Saturday’s rally was organized by Malvernite Doris Bové, who said she was inspired by her daughter, Nicole, and her Girl Scout Gold Award project last year. Nicole’s project aimed to support law enforcement during a time at which suicide among police officers had increased. Bové also kicked off the village’s blue ribbon campaign, which aims to thank police officers for their service, last month.
