First Squad detectives from the Nassau County Police Department reported the arrest of three people from Hempstead on Dec. 5 after an incident in Wantagh at 8:40 a.m. the day before.

A 911 call was made on the morning on Dec. 4 that a “suspicious occupied vehicle,” according to the police report, was first seen on Cornelius Avenue. Police then spotted the vehicle, a Jeep, as it was traveling eastbound on Eaton Road. Police claimed in the report that the Jeep’s registration matched that of a stolen vehicle from Oceanside.

As police activated their emergency lights to pull the Jeep over, their report states, the driver did not comply and continued to drive while police pursued. The three passengers of the car then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle, which police said continued to roll forward after the driver and occupants fled, then struck a police vehicle but did not harm the officer driving it.

Police brought in their canine unit to aid in the investigation, which soon located the occupants of the vehicle — a 22-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old. All three are  Hempstead residents. The NCPD also reported that one officer was injured when one of the individuals resisted arrest. He was transported to a local hospital.

Authorities followed up with a subsequent investigation, and determined that the trio were in possession of “numerous stolen credit cards and other assorted property.”

All three individuals were charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle. They were arraigned on Dec. 5.
