The search for Baldwin's Petros Krommidas, a 29-year-old Democratic candidate for the Nassau County Legislature, has entered its third week with no new developments, despite extensive search efforts by local authorities and volunteers.
Krommidas was last seen on the night of April 23 in Long Beach. Police say he was believed to have entered the water near the Allegria Hotel for a training swim. His locked vehicle was discovered parked outside the hotel on April 28. Nearby, authorities found his clothing, towel, and cell phone on the beach.
Over the weekend, more than 100 volunteers joined rescue personnel in a coordinated search across the Atlantic Beach area. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman ordered the deployment of the county’s Community Emergency Response Team and drone unit to assist in the effort.
Krommidas’ family filed a missing person report with the Nassau County Police Department on April 24. Investigators have been using drones and other search tools to scan the surrounding areas, but have yet to find any additional clues.
Krommidas is a graduate of Chaminade High School and Columbia University, where he studied American history and business management. He previously worked in finance before becoming a political organizer. In 2024, he joined the Democratic Party as a field organizer and later launched his campaign for a seat in the county legislature.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to his disappearance to call the Nassau County Police Missing Persons Squad at (516) 573-7347 or dial 911.
