In repsonse to Tropical Storm County Executive Laura Curran announced the opening of three cooling centers in the county for people without power. One of the three will be North Woodmere Park.

The park at 750 Hungry Harbor Rd in North Woodmere will be open today from noon to 6 p.m as a cooling center.

"With temperatures expected to be in the 80s tomorrow and with countless residents without power and air conditioning, Nassau is opening three cooling centers for anyone who needs a break from the heat," Curran said. "We will be following the State’s guidelines for cooling center to prevent spread of Covid-19." Curran added that anyone who arrives without a mask will be provided one.

The other cooling center's are Cantiague Park in Hicksville and the Wantagh Administration Building in Wantagh

Curran noted that she is foucsed on reaching out to PSEG for answers as to why there are still many power outages in the county.

"We have heard from numerous residents who are still without power and have had a hard time contacting PSEGLI to tell them about their outage," she said. "It’s completely unacceptable that so many residents remain without power and restoring power for our residents and businesses is my number-one priority right now."
