The Oceanside Library and Kiwanis Club teamed to raise more than $30,000 to send more than 3,000 meals to front-line workers, first responders and local businesses.

The collection began in March with the Kiwanis Club donating $500 to the cause. The club members and library employees then asked the community to pitch in. Through the efforts, they were able to send meals to front-line staff at Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital, to first responders in the Oceanside Fire Department, and to staff at Towers and Gutterman’s funeral homes.

“We were all happy to help them,” said Tony Iovino, the library’s director of community services. “A lot of the staff live here in town and it’s just neighbors helping neighbors.”

Iovino also noted that MSSN is a “great partner” to the Oceanside Library by offering programs and to the Kiwanis Club.
