Phase Two in photos: Merrick

Posted

As Long Island entered Phase Two of reopening on June 10, the streets of Merrick moved in a way they hadn’t since mid-March, when New York state was forced to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Select business owners opened their doors to customers they hadn’t seen in three months; restaurants erected makeshift patios outside their establishments to welcome diners for a meal al fresco; and residents made their way to their favorite park or playground while keeping a social distance from others.

During the first weekend of Phase Two, the Herald Life was on the ground to get a glimpse of our new normal. This photo series not only evokes some needed sense of normalcy, but also captures life amid the pandemic.
