Seaford Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora announced late Wednesday afternoon that a district employee, who had been in Seaford High School and Seaford Middle School last week, has tested positive  for coronavirus.

School buildings will now be closed to all district employees for a 24-hour period in accordance with guidelines set by the  New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The buildings will be investigated in the required shutdown period and professionally cleaned and disinfected, according to the district.  Employees will be allowed in to the buildings only after this process has been completed.

The Nassau County Department of Health has informed the district that it will be conducting an investigation into whom the employee may have come into contact with after contracting the virus. The identity of the employee is being withheld.

"We recognize that this news will be concerning to our community," Pecora wrote in a prepared release. "Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority. We will remain in close contact with health officials, follow any recommendations they issue, and continue to keep you updated to the extent permissible."
