Fair Snowfall lands in Rockville Centre
An overnight snowstorm dropped three to six inches of snow across Long Island, including in Rockville Centre, which had a school closure on Friday.
Mayor Francis Murray thanked the village's snow removal crews for clearing 53 miles of roads, 30 parking fields and all village-owned sidwalks.
"While it is never an easy job, this storm presented further challenges due to limited crews [from] increased cases of Covid and flu," Murray said. "Our dedicated employees will keep working to ensure the safety of our roadways and we appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our residents."
Murray also thanked Department of Public Works Co-directors Gwynne Feiner and John Thorp and Village Administrator Nancy Howard for their coordination and oversight of the response.
With snow in the forecast, Rockville Centre school officials announced Thursday that the district's buildings would be closed on Friday.
In a note on the school's website, officials wrote that activities would also be canceled.
"Be safe, responsible and healthy while enjoying the wintery day," the note read.
