South Side girls raise money for breast cancer

Posted

Pink once again is playing an important role in South Side High School’s 95-year old Red and Blue all girls spirit competition. For the second year, Red and Blue participants are raising money throughout the six-weeks of practice and this weekend’s performances to benefit a breast cancer support and advocacy organization located on Long Island.

Buoyed by last year’s enthusiasm, Red and Blue teammates are hoping to exceed last year’s fundraising results of $2,200. High school senior Katie Richner initiated this fundraising component last year so that the competition could benefit the community beyond the 300 girls who participate in the annual revue and indoor meet.

If you would like to help in Red and Blue’s fundraising efforts, you can make a check out to “Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program” with the memo stating “Red/Blue Breast Cancer Fundraiser.” Checks should be sent in care of Carol Roseto, District Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, South Side High School, 140 Shepherd Street, NY 11570.
