Valley Stream Central High School district looks for new superintendent

Posted

Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education has enlisted the help of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates,  one of the largest national educational leadership search firms, to assist them in their nationwide search for a new superintendent of schools.

The firm will talk with board of education trustees, Central High administration, building administrators, and representatives from all district bargaining units, parents, and the greater Valley Stream community regarding the kind of characteristics and qualifications they’d like to see in the next superintendent. Based on this community input, the consulting firm will market the superintendent position to a diverse pool of potential applicants, recruit prospective candidates, screen, and vet applicants, and assist the Board in selecting finalists and, ultimately, welcome the district’s new administrative chief.

Valley Stream Central High parents and residents will be given the opportunity to provide input to the Board about the leadership needs of the district through an anonymous online survey that will be available from January 31 through February 18. The link for the survey will be posted on the Superintendent Search page on the district’s website starting January 31 (under Resources on the home page, go to Superintendent Search).

Thoughts from district staff and community stakeholders will also be solicited at a series of virtual forums during which attendees will be given the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and ideas about the next superintendent. Following a compilation of information provided through the online survey and forums, a “Leadership Profile” will be developed that will be presented to the Board of Education and the community at the Board’s regularly scheduled Board meeting on March 8, 2022. The report will also be posted on the district’s website.

HYA will begin active recruiting following the March 8 presentation. It is anticipated the Board will begin the applicant interview process in late March with a selection of a candidate being made in late Spring 2022 for the start date of July 1, 2022.
