A Uniondale man was arrested for an alleged incident of arson at the Nassau County Warming Center at 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale at 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 31, Nassau police said.
A Nassau County probation officer saw a fire inside the men’s bathroom at the warming center. The officer also saw Christian M. Hall, 33, of Walton Avenue was standing inside the bathroom alone at the time of the fire, according to police.
The officer ordered Hall to leave the bathroom and was able to control the fire with a fire extinguisher. Police from the 3rd Precinct along with the Uniondale Fire Department also responded to help extinguish the fire.
An investigation revealed that at the time of the fire Hall was standing in the handicap stall where there was much fire damage to the walls as well as the toilet broken into many pieces, police said.
Further investigation determined that Hall was allegedly responsible for setting the fire and was arrested.
The probation officer was taken in a county police ambulance to a nearby hospital and treated for difficulty breathing. Hall was also taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
At 1:54 a.m. at Jan. 31, a man entered the Sunoco gasoline station on Hempstead Turnpike, also in Uniondale, and tried to buy a drink and two packs of cigarettes, but his credit/debit card was declined, police said.
The man then allegedly took the drink and tried to leave. The employee, a man, 65, stopped him and the two began fighting. The employee was allegedlly punched in the face ad chest, pushed to the ground and kicked. The man took the cigarettes and left heading south on Cunnigham A venuw, according to police.
The employee was trested at the scene by Nassau County police medics.
Police caught up to Hall and arrested him for this incident which includes chzages of robbery, assaul, burglary and petit larceny.
Hall pleaded not guilty to the alleged arson and released without bail. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing him.
He is scheduled to be arraigned for the alleged assault and robbery ay First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 3.
