The Oceanside School District confirmed that a hate symbol was discovered on one of its elementary school playgrounds on Sept. 9, prompting an immediate response from district officials and local law enforcement.

In a statement released by the district on Tuesday, administrators worked closely with the Nassau County Police Department to investigate the incident. The individuals responsible were identified and held accountable, though specific details were not released.

“There is no place for such symbols in our schools or community,” Superintendent Phyllis Harrington wrote. “As a district, we remain committed to teaching respect, belonging, and understanding through lessons in history, character, and inclusion.”

Officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to fostering safe and supportive schools for every child.
