The Baldwin High School presented “Mamma Mia” at the high School this weekend.

The Baldwin High School Playhouse presented three showings of "Mamma Mia" this weekend at the Baldwin High School located on 841 Kloberg Drive on starting on Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. and additional showings on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Tricia Wilder, a first time director at the Baldwin High School, said the students began working on the production in the beginning of September and they’ve had an incredible time practicing, and performing the musical together.

“These students are just amazing to work with,” said Wilder.

Wilder said they picked “Mamma Mia” because the playhouse wanted to put on a more upbeat and exciting show following the Covid-19 pandemic. She said they figured many of the audience members would know the music and be excited to watch the students.

Prior to the show’s start on Nov. 17, Andre Poprilla, director of fine and performing arts at the Baldwin High School, gave a preamble speech about the importance of live theatre and how far the students have come since the last production. He said he was delighted to see students, family, and community members fill the theatre without the need for masks and social distancing like in years prior.

“It means the world to the students and staff to put on great shows, like we’ve done for generations,” said Poprilla.
