Uniondale man arrested for alleged drug and weapon possession

A Uniondale man was arrested early Monday after fleeing from police and allegedly discarding drugs and a weapon, Nassau police said.

According to police, officers saw a man wearing a black face mask walking south on Nassau Road near Van Buren Street around 3:48 a.m. When officers approached, the man ran north on Nassau Road, throwing his jacket, a fanny pack and a switchblade to the ground as he fled.

After a brief chase, police arrested Sergio Espinoza, 20, of Greenwich Street. Officers later found a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine and two white oval pills suspected to be oxycodone in his fanny pack. No injuries were reported.

Espinoza is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, criminal possession of a controlled substance and violating the Nassau County Title 90-Mask Transparency Law.

He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on March 24.
