Laurelton resident charged with assaulting police officer in Valley Stream

A Laurelton resident who allegedly attempted to leave Applebee’s at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream without paying for the food she ordered and ate was arrested by 5th Precinct officers who were called to the scene at 1:40 p.m. on May 12, police said.

Julie Imani Rutledge, 24, of 221st Street in Laurelton, resisted arrest and injured an officer, according to police. She was subsequently taken into custody and then taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

Rutledge is charged with second-degree assault, theft of services, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Rutledge was arraigned on May 13 in Hempstead.
