Long Island Jewish receives ‘C’ safety rating

Long Island Jewish Valley Stream recently earned a ‘C’ rating from The Leapfrog Group. The non-profit organization publishes The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade each year, which scores hospitals on their performance in keeping patients safe.

Data for the grade comes from the hospital, and is then analyzed using 28 evidence-based measures of hospital safety, according to the organization’s website. Long Island Jewish Valley Stream lost points for its practices to prevent errors.

“Whenever information contained in the various ‘hospital report cards’ identifies a potential quality issue, the public can be assured that we are already aware of it and are working aggressively to resolve it,” read a statement issued by Northwell Health, which owns and operates Long Island Jewish. “We do this routinely as part of our ongoing internal operations and analysis…so that we can provide the best patient experience possible.”

It further said that the data used for these report cards are frequently from prior years, and that the staff at Northwell Health have since identified areas that need improvement and are in the process of improving the hospital’s performance.

South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center also received ‘C’ ratings from The Leapfrog Group.
