School election mail-in ballot deadline extended to June 16

New York has extended the deadline for when mail-in school budget and school board election ballots can be received.

Originally, school district clerks were required to be in possession of both drop-off and mail-in ballots by June 9 at 5 p.m. Now, however, district clerks have until June 16 to receive the mail-in ballots.

Hand-delivered ballots are still required by June 9.

“No New Yorker should have to choose between their health and their right to vote,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said as he announced the change.

In Valley Stream, the mail-in and drop-off locations are as follows:

— District 30: 175 N. Central Ave. No. 100

 — District 13: 585 Corona Ave.

— District 24: 75 Horton Ave.

In the same executive order, the governor allowed absentee ballots in the state’s presidential primary to be counted if postmarked no later than June 23. This means voters may mail their ballots as late as the day of the election.
