Seventh Community Fest a big success

More than 10,000 Valley Streamers lined Rockaway Avenue on Sept. 29 to experience the seventh annual Community Fest.

There, the children enjoyed art projects, a bounce house and a petting zoo while their parents had the opportunity to shop at local vendors. This year’s festival also included a car show and food trucks, as well as a performances.

“The festival’s purpose is to highlight the diversity in Valley Stream,” said Marie McNair, the festival committee chairwoman.

She, along with five other committee members, worked throughout the year to plan the event. They had to secure sponsors, and worked with the Village of Valley Stream and the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce to put together the Community Fest.

“The Community Fest is a fine example of volunteers in the community coming up with an idea, partnering with the village and running a highly successful event,” said Mayor Ed Fare. “The crowd was huge and everything went smoothly thanks to their hard work and planning.”

McNair added that she was grateful to the village and the Chamber saying “without them there wouldn’t be a Community Fest,” and that it is one of the treasures that help keep Valley Stream one of the Best Places to Live.
