Student athletes create video message for Baldwin fifth-graders

The Baldwin High School Student-Athlete Leadership Team, Athletes Helping Athletes, is a student organization that focuses on mentoring elementary students using sports as an alternative to avoid risky behaviors and help younger children make better choices.

Recently, the older students reached out to their adviser with concern for elementary students and their morale. The AHA students created a video message to let the elementary students know that “we are all in this together.”

Throughout the year, the AHA high school students visited with fifth-grade students at each of the elementary schools to provide lessons and develop relationships. Most years, the high school students and the fifth-grade students culminate the school year with their participation in Unity Day. However, because of the pandemic, the district was forced to cancel the event.

School officials said the students selected for AHA represent success academically and athletically, as well as demonstrate character, integrity, compassion and a sense of responsibility for their community.
