V.S. kids hop to Hendrickson for some Easter fun

Roughly 1,500 children flocked to the Hendrickson Park mini golf course area to get their Easter baskets of candy and take photos with the Easter bunny on Saturday. All smiles and a few tears for the younger ones, the children and their caretakers walked through the small event, which featured costumed figures to pose and interact with.

Like other holiday events organized through the village Recreation Department over the past year, Recreation Director Jimmy Fitanzo said the goal was to give residents a little bit of normalcy in hard times. Normally, the village holds an Easter egg hunt, but with the coronavirus still an ongoing concern, the workers decided to do something different.

“The Recreation Department came up with the idea of do a walkthrough, with the baskets already premade and an opportunity to take some socially distanced pictures with the bunnies,” Fitanzo said. “ . . . I think people are just excited to get out. I think this is going to be a tremendous spring and summer for Valley Stream.”
