Congressional candidate Jackie Gordon’s first TV ad to hit airwaves tomorrow

“Be all that you can be" is mantra Gordon lives by

On Aug. 28, Jackie Gordon, the Democratic candidate for New York’s Second Congressional District,  will release her first television ad.

The 30-second spot, highlighting  the candidate’s twin credentials as a veteran of both military and public service, also provides a  window into  her family and personal life. It will start airing at 7 a.m. on Friday and will run through the following week. The ad centers around the Army motto, “Be all that you can be,” the slogan that inspired Gordon to enlist more than 30 years ago and that continued to motivate her throughout her Army career, until her retirement as a lieutenant colonel.

In an exclusive statement  to the Herald on Thursday, Gordon said, “When I was 20 years old, I enlisted in the Army, because I wanted to do more to serve my country. It’s the same reason I'm running for Congress today. Working families on Long Island deserve a representative who lives like them and understands the challenges our community is facing. In Congress, I will fight to lower prescription drug prices, pass tax relief for working families and small businesses that need it most, and invest in skills training and workforce development to rebuild our local economy.”

The former Babylon town councilwoman served for 29 years as a reserve military police officer, with overseas deployments in Germany and Iraq. She also worked as a school guidance counselor while raising her two children as a single mother on Long Island. Her steadfast focus as a Democrat seeking to succeed longtime Republican Rep. Peter King has enabled her to raise more than $1.7 million in contributions, with more than $1.1 million cash on hand.

The ad recognizes both the narrative of her personal triumphs as well as her intense campaign to serve Long Island’s south shore.

“I’ve been to basic (training) and I’ve taught yoga,” says Gordon in the ad, offering an example of the range of commitments her constituents embody. “All of us, we’re more than just one thing,” she said.

Gordon and her team will also post the video on her official YouTube channel on Friday, as well as on her official campaign Twitter (@VoteJackie4NY).
