The funds will be used to purchase 20 new smartboards to enhance classroom technology in the district.

Both Assemblywomen Griffin and Darling said they were proud to help secure the funds for Freeport and will continue to look for additional funding to aid the district.

"Our schools are an important resource for our children,” Griffin said, “and this funding will provide the necessary resources to ensure our youth has the best technology possible to become our greatest generation yet."

“We also want to set them up for success so they are best prepared to be globally competitive once they enter the workforce,” Darling added.” None of this can be accomplished without technological advancement. Our children represent our tomorrow and we want to ensure they have the resources required to develop to their fullest extent.”

District Superintendent Kishore Kuncham said he was grateful for the funding and that the new boards will replace some of the outdated boards in the schools.

The funding for the new smartboards was secured through the Smart Schools Bond Act, which helps fund investments in tech and security equipment.
