Lynbrook Fire Department cancels fire truck rides, Santa to still visit village

For only the third time in nearly 70 years, the Lynbrook Fire Department will not hold its annual Christmas Fire Truck Rides in December for the village’s children because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The only other times the rides were cancelled were in the 1970s during the gasoline crisis and another time a few years ago because of bad weather.

The cancellation will not stop Santa Claus from visiting the village, however. Jolly St. Nick will be riding through Lynbrook in style on a fire truck on Dec. 12.

According to Fire Chief Michael Brooks, Santa will travel through the village at 1 p..m. to offer children a chance to see him and wave to him. He will start in the west end section of the village and travel through Lynbrook’s four quadrants.

“We know that each year the children love to ride the fire trucks and meet with Santa,” Brooks said. “This drive around the village this year is the least we can do for the children. We wish we could do more and drive down every single street.”
