Police are investigating after a swastika was found drawn on a locker at Wantagh High School, according to a letter from the district.
In a message to the community, Superintendent John McNamara said a janitor discovered the symbol Monday afternoon on the side of a locker in the boys locker room in the gymnasium.
The individual responsible has not yet been identified, and school officials have filed a report with the Nassau County Police Department for a full investigation, McNamara said.
“This behavior does not reflect the strong values of our community,” he wrote. “We will not tolerate acts of hate in any form. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against anyone involved.”
Students with information are encouraged to contact the high school administration.
McNamara added that the district is “dedicated to fostering an environment of respect and understanding” and will continue efforts to educate students on empathy, acceptance and the consequences of such actions.
This is a developing story.
