Rockville Centre Library continues programming online

The Rockville Centre Public Library may not physically be open, but its services are readily available online.

“While the building is closed,” said Sarah Siegel, program coordinator, “the library is open as far as online presence, which has always been strong.”

People can access Ebooks, digital magazines, audiobooks and video streaming all through the library’s website. In addition, patrons have access to tutor.com, a service that provides a virtual tutor for students from elementary school through college.

The services are accessible with a library card. For those who need one, the library is currently offering digital library cards through its website, Siegel said.

In-person programs have been replaced with Facebook Live sessions. Last week, the library recorded live video of a friendship bracelet-making demonstration for one of its children’s programs. It will also be bringing back the “Music for Aardvarks” children’s program and cooking classes online.

On the library’s website, there are meditation and yoga classes on video that are accessible at any time. Plus, the library is working on creating a Zoom account to meet with the community for discussion-based programs such as The Constitution and Current Events.

“These are all things to look forward to,” Siegel said. “It’s a new world for some of us, but we hit the ground running and are looking forward to hearing from the community about what they would like to see.”

At this time, the library is not charging overdue fee on any materials. It has also extended library card expiration dates to May 1.
