Covid-19 claims first confirmed Seaford fatality

Victim was nurse at Huntington Hospital

Registered nurse John Abruzzo, 63, of Seaford, died of complications from the Covid-19 virus on April 2. He was the hamlet's first confirmed fatality from the virus.

Abruzzo was a 14-year veteran of the Huntington Hospital nursing staff. Before that, he worked as a security guard at the same location for five years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Thomas Kutcher; his daughter, Christina Ravenes, and grandchildren, Logan, Kaia and Brinley. Abruzzo's brother also works at the hospital.

Abruzzo was reportedly diabetic, but in control of the disease. He did not have other known underlying health risks.

Abruzzo's wife, Mary, reportedly did not know when he contracted the virus. It is not known whether she has been tested for teh virus.
