State comptroller creates 'Financial Survival Toolkit'

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has compiled a “Covid-19 Financial Survival Toolkit” for New York residents. The list of resources, including various crucial phone numbers and important web links, was posted on the state comptroller’s website on April 8.

The toolkit covers topics such as physical health, employment issues, paying bills, small business and nonprofit financial assistance, personal finance education and avoiding financial scams.

DiNapoli pointed out available resources for financial relief for residents that are having trouble paying bills on time, and it includes resources to aid in situations like mortgage relief, evictions, public service utilities, state and federal income taxes and credit card debt relief.

Online resources include the Federal Trade Commission, State Attorney General, the Department of State and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. DiNapoli is urging state residents to take full advantage of the resources at their disposal.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created a serious public health crisis for New York, and the economic impact to our state will likely be felt for a long time to come. My office is taking many proactive and positive steps to address the economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, and we want to help New York’s residents, government entities, nonprofits and businesses alike as they navigate these uncharted waters. We created this page of helpful resources and links to give you easy access to vital assistance and information you need at this time. Since the situation is changing rapidly with each passing day, please check back regularly as we update this information.”
