Peninsula Public Library in Lawrence hosts several virtual events in August.

On Wednesdays, Aug. 19 and 26,   instructor Donna Miller-Small will provide simple, step-by-step instructions for the basics of the card game canasta. Attendees will need a deck of cards for the first session and be near a table or desk in order to participate in practice exercises. Handouts will be sent prior to the first session. The sessions will begin at 4 p.m.

In this Aug. 13 Zoom presentation, Professor Brian Rose will hold a History of Hollywood Censorship. Rose will look at 125 years of movie censorship and the many ways Hollywood has tried to deal with this continuing issue. The presentation will begin at 11 a.m.

The Zoom programs mentioned above are free and open to the public. Advance registration is required. Register by visiting the online Eventkeeper calendar on the library's website: https://www.peninsulapublic.org. An email with Zoom login details will be sent prior to each program.
