Students at West Hempstead Union Free School District’s Cornwell Avenue School and Chestnut Street School have combined their excitement for the Super Bowl and aiding the community as they took part in the “Souper Bowl.”

A pair of boxes representing the two Super Bowl LIII teams, the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots, was established at both schools. Students then put cans of soup into the box of the team they are rooting as part of a way to collect donations.

The collections started on Jan. 22 and concluded on Feb. 1, after which they were brought to the Mary Brennan INN. The box with the most cans at the end of the challenge was announced as the "Souper Bowl" winner for each school.

District officials thanked both schools putting forth the effort to make an impact on their community.
