First a flood, then a fire for Merrick Road business
(Page 3 of 3)
Scott Brinton/Herald
Patricia Salcedo, seated, owner of the Dakota Design Center and lead designer for P.S. Micaza Interiors, is recovering after her business was flooded during Hurricane Sandy and later caught fire. Her showroom will be temporarily housed at Republic Lighting in Bellmore until her building can be restored. She was joined here by, from left, Rich Adler, owner of Republic Lighting; Randi Satnick, the design center’s events coordinator; and Christina Piekut, its senior designer.

“I felt like I went into another state, the devastation,” said Christina Piekut, the center’s senior designer. “But we couldn’t let it get to us. People needed our help.”

Fortunately, Piekut had wrapped computers and clients’ files in plastic and made sure they were up high before the storm, enabling the design center to get up and running once Salcedo found the new space at Republic Lighting.

“We’re almost back to full capacity in terms of our resources,” Satnick said. “We do what we say we’re going to do, and we stand by our work.”
