A gas station employee was able to fend off a would-be robber armed with a knife Friday night, according to Nassau County Police.

At 11:42 on Friday, a male suspect wearing a black jacket, black pants and black gloves came to the front door of the BP gas station on Merrick Road armed with what police described as “a large knife.”

The suspect demanded all of the money in the store, but the person in the store was able to push the suspect out of the door and lock it behind him, without giving him any cash, police said.

The suspect fled northbound on Newbridge Road and is currently being sought by police. Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
