VETERANS DAY 2014

Veterans honored in Bellmore

The Bellmores paused on Tuesday to pay homage to the men and women who have served in the U.S. military at the community’s annual Veterans Day ceremony.

North Bellmore American Legion Post No. 1749 and the Vietnam War Veterans Association sponsored the service, which was held at the monuments in front Newbridge Road Elementary School. The ceremony began at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 –– a nod to the date and time that Allies signed the armistice with Germany to end World War I.

Veterans of all ages gathered in front of the school, in addition to residents who thanked them for their service. Members of Bellmore Boy Scout Troop 577 also took part in the ceremony, with several youngsters joining the color guard for the service, and New York State Assemblyman David McDonough attended.
