Hofstra celebrates the holiday season with “Remembering Mel,” a tribute to one of America’s most enduring male vocalists, Saturday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m., at its Helene Fortunoff Theater. Veteran performer Warren Schein, nicknamed “The Velvet Mist,”accompanied by his musical trio, interprets some of Tormé’s most popular songs in this lively revue.

With his trio – David Schacih on bass, drummer Art Lillard and pianist Frank Sanchez to set the tone – Schein performs the hit parade of Torme’s memorable songs, including “Lulu’s Back in Town,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “When the Sun Comes Out,” “Just in Time,” “More Than You Know,” and “The Christmas Song.”

“It’s fitting that we opened the fall season with Tony Bennett and end with Mel Torme – two important talents in the world of the great American Songbook,” said Hofstra Entertainment Executive Producer Bob Spiotto.

Tickets are $19, $17 seniors and students; available at (516) 463-6644.
