Bellmore Chamber springs into Easter

Posted

Snow may have been falling on Saturday, but that didn’t stop the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores and locals from participating in the annual Easter Parade.

More than 100 residents gathered in downtown Bellmore on March 28 in spite of the chilly weather for the parade, led by none other than the Easter Bunny and organizers from the chambers. Several local businesses also got involved to provide plenty of family fun.

Residents participating in the parade met at 11:45 a.m. at the Bellmore Movies on Pettit Avenue, where children received plastic Easter eggs filled with candy from the chamber. State Sen. Michael Venditto and Bellmorite and Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads joined the celebration, posing for pictures with youngsters and the Easter Bunny.

Donned in their Sunday best and coats to keep them warm, the group processed down Bedford Avenue through Bellmore’s downtown area. When the parade ended at Oak Street, the families received more special holiday treats.

Parents were able to snap photos of their children with everyone’s favorite rabbit in a spring-themed setting at the end of the route. Chamber officials said the owners of Island Greenery, which is located on Bellmore Avenue, provided the set-up.

Children also received a free cupcake from Nancy, the Cupcake Lady on Bedford Avenue. The business owners said they were happy to see the little ones, smiling and wearing their Easter bonnets.
