A Bellmore man was arrested by New York State police on Sunday, just after 10 p.m. An officer stopped Peter Held, 44, for an unsafe lane change and for failing to signal a lane change on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway, near the Wantagh Parkway.

Held, who was driving a red Nissan, pulled over to the side of the road, at which point the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer searched the car and discovered a small amount of crack cocaine and marijuana. The officer also recovered two glass smoking pipes and found traces of cocaine in Held’s jacket.

Held was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, misdemeanor unlicensed operation and traffic violations.
