Bellmore-Merrick school budgets easily pass; incumbent defeated

All four Bellmore-Merrick elementary districts saw their budgets pass handily on Tuesday. The Bellmore-Merrick Central District budget passed as well.

The Bellmore Elementary District budget passed with 61 percent of the vote. In total, 879 yes votes and 551 no votes were cast.

In the race for the Bellmore Board of Education, incumbent Jay Breakstone ran unopposed and was re-elected with 838 votes.

The Merrick School District budget passed with nearly 59 percent of the vote. In total, 949 yes votes and 663 no votes were cast.

Also in Merrick, incumbent trustees Butch Yamali and Sheri Iskendarian, who ran unopposed, were re-elected. Yamali received 992 votes, and Iskendarian garnered 1,096 votes.

The North Bellmore Elementary School District budget passed with 63 percent of the vote. In total, 1,611 yes votes and 936 no votes were cast.

In the race for the North Bellmore Board of Education, challenger John Ferrara defeated incumbent Trustee Nina Lanci. Ferrara took 1,078 votes to Lanci’s 1,061, a 17-vote margin.

The North Merrick Elementary School District budget passed with 57 percent of the vote. In total, 716 yes votes and 525 no votes were cast.

North Merrick incumbent trustees Matthew Kuschner and Jonathan Butler ran unopposed and were re-elected. Kuschner received 730 votes, and Butler garnered 758 votes.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District budget passed with 59 percent of the vote. In total, 3,922 yes votes and 2,675 no votes were cast.

The Central District’s capital improvement proposition passed as well with 64 percent of the vote. In total, 4,203 yes votes and 2,344 no votes were cast.
