Bellmores honor the fallen on Memorial Day

Posted

The sun shone down on the Bellmores as residents and veterans joined together for the community’s annual Memorial Day parade on Monday.

The day began early with a wreath presentation in front of the Bellmore Veterans Memorial on Bedford Avenue, beside the Long Island Rail Road station. From there, the parade headed north on Bedford Avenue to Oak Street , before proceeding north on Bellmore Avenue.

Veterans and current members of the armed forces led the parade through the Bellmores, including members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Veterans of America. The Bellmore and North Bellmore fire departments, the Chamber of Commerce and local Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little Leaguers participated in the parade as well. And the Mepham High School marching band entertained the crowd, as did the Nassau County firefighters pipe band.
