Carey picks off Kennedy

On a day when the rain was relentless, nobody was more slippery than Carey’s Greg D’Arienzo.

The do-it-all senior scored all five of the Seahawks’ touchdowns—two on interception returns, two on kickoff returns and one rushing—as they opened the Nassau Conference II football season with a soggy 32-14 victory over visiting Kennedy on Friday afternoon. The Cougars got long second-half touchdown runs from junior Joe Karo and senior Joseph Stagliano.

The Seahawks seized momentum late in the first quarter with their defense on the field and Kennedy in the red zone. D’Arienzo picked off a third-and-5 pass by Adrian Rose and brought it back 90 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone for a wild game that featured six scoring plays of 58 yards or more.
