Chamber street festival is on the way

A “dream team” of volunteers with the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores is hard at work preparing for the biggest community event of the year: the Bellmore Family Street Festival.

The 29th annual festival, which will be held in downtown Bellmore, will take place from Sept. 17 to 20. The four-night, two-day extravaganza is presented by the chamber and co-sponsored by Nassau County, the Nassau County Police Department, the Town of Hempstead, the Ford Experience Tour, News 12, K98.3, Stop & Shop and the Bellmore Herald Life, among others.

“The Chamber Board of Directors and festival dream team have put an enormous amount of time and effort to bring this festival to you, and invite you to come and enjoy yourself,” the organization said in a statement. “[We’re] very proud of the Bellmore Family Street Festival and the family values it conveys.”

This year’s festival will open at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19 and 20. There will also be an evening carnival that will run throughout the weekend, starting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 17. The area around the Long Island Rail Road station, between Broadway and Bedford and Pettit avenues, will be busy on:

  • Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The festival will feature an array of exhibits and attractions. The fair is touted as Nassau’s largest family festival, annually drawing more than 120,000 visitors. Dozens of local businesses will participate. The festival, chamber officials said, gives merchants the chance both to “show their stuff” and thank residents for shopping and doing business locally by providing entertainment, information and fun for residents of all ages.

The festival will feature several expositions, including the Kids Expo, which will feature child-friendly rides and special attractions; the Crafts Expo, with many handicraft vendors; the Military Expo, with the latest gear from all branches of the military, veterans organizations and service groups; the Sports Expo, with representatives of local and tri-state sports organizations; and the Home Improvement Expo, showcasing local contractors and their work.

The festival will also allow local non-profit groups to raise funds and share important information. Library officials and other community leaders will be on hand. Long Island Blood Services’ Bloodmobile will collect blood. And flu shots will be available.
