Civic group to seek cell-phone moratorium at Aug. 3 rally

The North Merrick Civic Association is seeking support for a moratorium on the installation of cell-phone antennas and other equipment in the Town of Hempstead until a new town code regulating the equipment is passed. The group is urging people to attend a rally at Town of Hempstead Hall at 10 a.m. on Aug. 3, just before a Town Board meeting scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Hempstead recently hired a consultant to assist in writing town code to manage the placement of cell-phone equipment. Claudia Borecky, president of the North Merrick Civic Association, said she’s concerned that the town may approve pending applications for equipment before the new code takes affect.
