Edward Weston: Life Work

The exhibit surveys the 50-year career of a giant of 20th-century photography. The photographs of Edward Weston (1886-1958) capture the rhythms, patterns, and interconnections between nature and human experience. Weston’s photographs are renowned for their sensuous print quality and for the rich black and white scale the photographer achieved during printing. Opens May 7, through July 24. Milton Avery & The End of Modernism
View works by the artist who brought the sketch to the status of a finished painting. The exhibit examines the contributions of Milton Avery as a significant figurative painter from the late 1920s through the early 1960s and places Avery’s work within a long history of modernist practice that recognizes the artist’s sketch as a finished work. 1930: Art in America

Photo Competition
The Long Island Center of Photography is sponsoring its fifth annual photo competition. The competition is open to all photographers and includes all types of photography from traditional to new media. All photographers, amateur and professional, are invited to submit their most current work for consideration. Entries will be judged by R. Wayne Parsons, President of the Soho Photo Gallery in Manhattan and regular photography critic of the New York Photo Review. Winning photos will be exhibited at the African American Museum in Hempstead. Awards and prizes will be presented at an artist’s reception on Sept. 25.
