Fire guts North Bellmore home

Posted

By Deirdre Krasula

Members of the North Bellmore Fire District were out for their annual installation dinner last Saturday night and several neighboring fire departments were on standby when a call for a raging fire at an Oswego Street home in North Bellmore came in.

The fire started on the first floor of the house, and the first firefighters on the scene encountered heavy flames. The blaze quickly spread to the second floor, and Baldwin and Bellmore fire volunteers used ladder trucks to fight the blaze. Mutual aid also came from the North Merrick, East Meadow, Levittown, Wantagh and Elmont departments.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
