Authentic Greek cuisine is what Nikkos is all about. Add to that a colorful décor graced with art painted by its Cypress-born chef, and you have something truly special. Mike Pantano has partnered up with the multi-talented Chef Nestor to open up a remarkable little Mediterranean restaurant. Atmosphere abound, you’ll enjoy upbeat music, a friendly staff, and cookery that’s a labor of love.

Beverages were offered and complimentary bean salad arrived with warm pita bread and creamy tzaziki sauce. Lovers of traditional Greek cold dips will adore Pikilia, a sampler with Hummus (ground chick peas), Tabouli (cracked wheat), Melitzanpsalata (eggplant salad), and my personal favorite, caviar-based Taramosalata. Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves); tomatoes, Greek olives and cucumbers were included on the platter. Served hot, Spanakopita, crisp phyllo stuffed with spinach and feta, was a fine choice too. Elliniki, Nikkos’ Greek Salad, was a generous mix of greens, onions, peppers, Kalamata olives and crumbled feta, dressed with light vinaigrette.

Mousaka was one of the best I’ve tasted, with a lighter than light béchamel sauce. Pastitsio included hearty meat sauce with macaroni. Chicken Athenian, boneless breasts stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, was drizzled with delicate lemon sauce. Crab Cakes - fresh, meaty and baked – arrived with a mélange of grilled vegetables. Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops were tender and tasty, served as a rack on the bone. Of the side dishes we were wowed by Patates Lemonades, roasted lemon potatoes topped with tomatoes and onions.

Chef Nestor makes desserts as well. His Baklava is unique - layers of walnuts and pistachios in phyllo dough with orange-infused syrup. Galactobureko was delicious, a creamy fig semolina custard in phyllo crust.

Appetizers range from $6.50 for any of the traditional dips with pita bread, to $11.95 for a sampling of all. Soups are $4.50, and salads, $8-$12. Greek Specialties with a salad or soup are $7.50 for lamb or chicken Gyro on Pita, to $17.95 for Bakaliaros Plaki (Greek-style scrod). Seafood, steaks and chops, and chicken entrees, which include a Greek salad, are $14.95 to $24.95. Burgers, wraps and Panini are $8.85-$14.95. Kids eat for $8.95 and get fries or salad. Desserts are $3.50-$4.50.
