Kennedy soccer team raises funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation

Posted

The Kennedy High School girls’ soccer team came together on Sept. 17 in support of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. After an early-morning practice, all 23 players met at Salon Envy in Merrick and purchased Streaks of Sunshine hair extensions, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. The extensions are $10 each.

The event, spearheaded by the Ofsink family, was in response to the overwhelming support provided to them by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In August 2008, their daughter, Andie Ofsink, was diagnosed with a virulent form of childhood cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Her spirits were always buoyed by the knowledge that at the end of her treatments she would be granted a special wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
