Mepham High School’s junior varsity cheerleaders, joined by their coach, Michelle Spinelli, made their voices heard at the Autism Speaks Walk, last weekend at Jones Beach.

It was Autism Speaks’ 18th walk, and was attended by close to 20,000, according to Eddie Russo, a spokesman for the organization. The goal of the event was to raise $930,000, and according to Russo, they are very near their goal.

Participants walk to advocate and take action for the diverse needs of the autism community. Their efforts help generate funds that fuel innovative research and make connections to critical lifelong supports and services.
