Newbridge Road students dream on

Third-graders at Newbridge Road Elementary School in the North Bellmore School District want to become teachers, doctors, inventors, dancers and professional athletes. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, children thought about and shared their dreams.

The students learned about the noted civil rights leader and listened to his famous speech. They then created their own “I Have a Dream” T-shirts by using markers to draw pictures and write about their future ambitions.

Jan. 18 was Dream T day, with students wearing their custom shirts and speaking about their desired careers. Third-grade teacher JoAnn Belferder said the purpose of the assignment was to show the children that they are never too young to start pursing their dreams.

“We want them to know if they work hard, just like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. they can achieve their goals for the future,” she said.
