Opposes synthetic football fields

At a time when school taxes are high, the state is cutting school aid and everyone is trying to reduce spending, two Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District trustees have proposed placing a $3.5 million to $4.5 million bond on the May ballot to fund construction of three synthetic-turf football fields.

In addition, when the turf wore out, it would take from $500,000 to $1.5 million to replace the turf carpets, plus other maintenance costs. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a bad idea.

As a senior citizen living in Bellmore for more than 55 years, how can I afford this nonsense?
